Mozzarella Cheese
Mozzarella a semi-soft cheese is almost as famous as its Italian counterpart Parmesan, largely due to it being a core ingredient in pizza making. It is a soft, unripened, fresh cheese that has been produced in Southern Italy since ancient Roman times. It is a cooked, kneaded cheese of the kind called pasta filata, meaning spun or pulled curd, and is ideally made by traditional methods. Mozzarella is a generic term for several kinds of originally Italian cheeses that are made using spinning and then cutting (hence the name; the Italian verb mozzare means "to cut).

It is the classic stringy pizza cheese. It is generally sliced or shredded as a topping for pizzas, and appears in pastas and sandwiches. Cooking enhances the elasticity of mozzarella.

Mozzarella is enjoyed with pasta, calzone, vegetables, salads, on pizza on grilled bread, or by itself accompanied by olive oil. Mozzarella is a soft, mild, fresh white cheese. While best known as a grated topping for our favorite pizzas, true Italian mozzarella has so much more flavor and complexity to offer.
Commercial mozzarella is vacuum-packaged for longer shelf life.

Storage Tips
